If you go into the Edit view in the sequencer you can use the pencil tool to draw groups and notes.

For me a MIDI controller with endless dials and/or motorized faders is much more important than a keyboard. I have a keyboard, but in fact I nearly never use it. But that depends on you and your style of music.

Yeah, I love when all the piano roll fanboys say Reason doesn't have a piano roll. It's not quite as easy to use (I mean, left click draw right click erase should work in Reason) but for all intents and purposes it's the saaaame thing

A little tip: If you're in the standard selection mode (the pointer), you can hold the ALT-key to enter new notes on the fly (it's like temporarely switching to the edit mode). So you save many stupid clicks.
