Default Is it possible to create sample from '.mp3' using Reason 4

Hi Friends

Please let me know whether I could be able to make a sample of a
sound from a '.mp3' file, using Reason 4?

Do I need to buy seperate software like 'Propellerhead Recycle'
to make a sample from '.mp3' file?

Thanks
skreason

your best bet would be to use some software to change the mp3 to a wav and then chop it up in recycle to get the part you want and import into reason. reason itself does not work with mp3 files, but it does use wav and rex (of course) files. you could always load the whole wav file into the nnxt or nn19 but that wouldn't isolate the part you want (you could isolate the part you want using this method, but it would be complex and take a lot of time to trial and error it out).

anyway, regardless of which method you choose, you really need to be mindful of copyright law. you didn't indicate who owned the copyright on the mp3 file you are thinking of, but if you don't, you better be clear on the copyright laws, resctrictions, and rights before you do whatever it is that you do.

Technical solution - download Audacity (it's Free & Open, use Google to find it) and use this to load up your mp3 and then edit/hack-it-up as you desire. Export it as WAV.

No need to purchase anything additional, Audacity will suit you fine for now. ReCycle is only needed if you want to chop the sample into a REX file for use in Dr. Rex.

Yeah, you can use Audacity for making fixed-tempo samples, and rex for making sliced variable tempo loops.

If you get Ableton Live, Logic, Acid or other similar DAWs you can rewire them to Reason and not need to chop them using Recycle, it'll timestretch it automagically.

Thumbs up

Hi "yournamehere"/"meowsqueak"/"Titancow"

Thank you very much for spending your valuable time to help me out from this problem.

Your valuable suggestions in this regard helped me a lot. I have already download "Audacity" and have convert it into '.wav' file form '.mp3'.
Now tel me in which format should I save so that my "Reason" can use this?

I am using "Roland XP60", "Axiom 61" and "Reason 4" to produce music. I need to have the Tone/Sound from "Roland SR-JV80" expansion serise - which Roland stops producing. While searching the net I have found "www.synthmania.com" where I found the few ".mp3" tone of almost all expansion serise.
Thing is I would like to have the legal copy of those Tones/Sounds, and if I make that using Auacity will there be any problem under copyright law?

If this is not the legal way to use please let me know where can I get the required Tones/Sounds of Roland SR-JV80 expansion serise??

Please help me - Your valuable suggestions will help me to choose the right. path

Well if you've already downloaded the MP3 files of the samples you want, then converting them to a differerent sound format wouldn't break any copyright rules.

If you save the sample that you require as a wave or aif file, you will be able to open it using the Redrum, NNXT or NN19 sample browser. You can then use those instruments to assign different samples to different note ranges, or, with ReDrum, different channels.
