Hi, You can create key zones with the NN-XT, so different areas of the keyboard will play different sounds. Is this what you are after? Matt.

The combinator is also a very useful tool for this. You can assign even different devices to the keyzones.

Ok I took a peek at both the NN-XT and Combinator, both which I have never used, still reading the tutorial from the CD. In the NN-XT I can see the samples list, but before all that how do I set up the range of keys which is to be selected. Same goes for the combinator, i press "Programmer" and i see the virtual keyboard, but how do i assign the key parameters.

If you have devices in a combi, say, Thor, Subtractor and another Thor, you click on the device in the programmer section and then you can specify what information the device you clicked on can recieve. Next to the check box for recieve notes, there is Key range lo and hi. This is where you would restrict your devices range. In theory, you could have each key of the keyboard play a separate device. It would take ten years to set up lol but it is possible.

I've never tried to split keys, but I want to try it. I'm running 3.0. Could you give a little more detailed instruction on the easiest way to do this? I'm a little retarded (well okay, a lot). I want to split keys to give me piano and bass. Thanks a lot. Joe |

Nutonik: Well I finally got to understand how I can set it up with the NN-XT, but it seems that the Patches have their corresponding key names (C3,D#, etc) and really makes this a drag, isn't there a utility I select a patch, and it spreads it on the key range I select? It will be a drag. Ducat: I have never, ever gotten the Combinator to work, Honestly I don't understand it, I guess I haven't gotten to that chapter yet on the tutorial, but I opened a Midi files and it has like 5 combinators, I tried plugging them to the mixer, synthesizers and such and no luck. So I will need a little guidance if possible, I don't really wanna jump around the tutorial, might throw me off. Joe Reynolds: So far only the NN-XT seems to work, there is a picture of a keyboard, you open a patch (sound) and then you select the key which you want it to play. You can resize the range of where that sound will play, sounds good, but i notice that the patch files have note letters on them. I did it one by one, but will see if i leave just one, if they sound different when I play the keys. I use a Roland RS-70, so built-in i have the option of piano and bass. |

Paul, I figured out how to make this work. I haven't refined it yet, but it appears to be pretty simple. Now as far as the combinator goes, it will allow you to play two or more processors at once. Here's how I use the combinator. Open up a mixer and let's say two nn-xt's. Program in a sound for each nn-xt. Select (highlight) each nn-xt by holding down the "shift" key. Next, go to "edit" in the toolbar at top and select "combine." Next, go to the pull up part at the bottom (never knew what this damn section is called) where each processor is listed and select combinator 1 for each nn-xt. Select combinator 1 also for combinator 1. Everything will be combinator 1. Now, you can go into the expanded section for each nn-xt and set your ranges. If you don't select ranges then both nn-xt's will play at the same time. Hope this helps. Joe |
