Default Problems with Rewire and my controller

Hey all. I am rewiring through Cubase 4, running Reason 4, and using the M-Audio Axiom 61 as my controller. When I Rewire and open Reason in Slave mode I get an error basically telling me that Reason cannot find or set-up my controller. I have no problems with either Reason and Cubase seeing the controller untill I am in Rewire mode. Any suggestions or known problems here?

Shane

This is normal - Cubase is utilizing the midi controller and Reason is unable to "see" it, so to speak. If you needed to use the midi controller in Reason you could disable it in Cubase before rewiring OR use two controllers.

There may be some other way around this but I'm no midi expert

Thanks for the reply but just seems like there has to be an easier method. I mean anyone rewiring and building a song must have this same problem. For example, I build my drum track in reason, rewire to lay down my guitar tracks, and now I want to lay down some synths or pads but can't do it.

Can anyone else please chime in.

Thanks!

Well you could play the guitar, and then play it in redrum or nn-xt. I take it that when you go back to Reason you want to hear the guitar track as well as the midi.

Disable the device in cubase so you can use it in reason directly, or just create a midi track in cubase that sends midi data to whatever device you need to use in reason.

SG thanks for the advice. How do I route the midi track back to reason from Cubase? -Shane

Well I haven't used cubase in a while, but it should be similar to the process in any other daw that can use rewire. Just create a midi track, and then assign its output to the reason device you want to play. (It'll list names like Redrum 1, nnxt 1 etc)

If it's not that simple in cubase I'll do some more digging and find the exact process.
