Default More Beats (please comment on em)

link: www.soundclick.com/nikd

lemme know what you think on any of them. Some are from early on experimentation, others i am just trying to crank out a basic beat and need advice some things to throw in, or some good free sites with samples, etc. If you guys know of any really good Hip Hop refill packages let me know (I am trying to keep this mostly a hobby so dont want to spend too much cash, but its really good i will).

To give you guys a good idea of the music i listen too, I like:
RJD2, Blue Scholars (gotta rep Seattle, there sick), Common, Nas, Chemical Brothers, The Roots, Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, anything DJ Premier, Wu Tang, etc.

Thanks alot,

Indian

Don't particularly care for Chillin. I would not bring the hats out in HH#13 until all the drums came out, but that's just my taste

HH#15 is pretty slammin imo, very very smooth and good sampling. I'm not at all a hip hop guy but I liked very much, and I think all of them could use lyrics.

Good work overall

Well I only had time to listen to chillin' and HH#15. Chillin' was starting out pretty good, but I have two suggestions. I didn't really care for the snare, I thought it really didn't fit the track, secondly I think you should have more variation in the track. Try to add some new instrumentation to it to make it sound less bland.

As for HH#15, I liked this one more, however I didn't really like how the sample sounded muffled but maybe that's what your were going for, also this was kinda repetitive but its a sampled track so I can see it being different with lyrics. I liked the drum pattern and samples you picked, fit the track nicely. But for the hook maybe you could use a different part of the song to sample.

Overall nice work, keep on makin' music.

thanks guys. yea to be honest i made most of those in about 20-30 minutes, and its just a very limited basic beat. Its kinda hard to get the right kind of variation, since i only use reason 2.5 and a midi piano. I have a background in piano and guitar, but all the mixing and scratching business im clueless.

I'm trying to keep this a free hobby but if you know any refills that are really worth spending cash on, that you think would help vary my tracks, please let me know. (as most of my stuff is stuff that came with reason, and downloaded for free). Thanks again

I'd recommend upgrading to Reason 4. Do you even have the MClass mastering devices or advanced reverb?

Your drums sound muddy and the your mixes are poor, especially for what is quite a simple instrument set. Have you automated anything to make the songs move? Try panning and/or double tracking instruments or something. Reason it brilliant for creating stuff, but you havn't used much of it.

I really like the piano in HH#13. If your trained in the piano take time out to record it again and give it more dynamics, I know it's hip hop but it seems lazy. You have a good ear for chords, but you can't just let things repeat.

My fav track is Realish.........it bloody goes somewhere, unlike the others. Gets a bit cheesy towards the end. I enjoyed Chillin too but not for as long.

yea thanks guys. yea most of the others were just quick beats hammered out in a few minutes, put on repeat so you could really analyze them. obviously i need to tweak them to bring them to life, which is where i lack the most...

EDIT: and to nutts Realish was supposed to be one of those feel good songs, so i this case, corny is what i was going for haha.
AND i added 3 songs just now check em out...FirstHH, Chillin#2, and HH#5
