Well reaper if a fairly young but very capable DAW for sampling, recording, and composing. And it has a non crippling trail (no matter how much you use the demo it'll never run out and it doesn't restrict any features). It's also very inexpensive. $50 dollars for an non-commercial license and $225 for a commercial one. And it's community forums are very responsive and helpful.

Also there's more expensive DAWs like ableton live, sonar 7, logic 8 (you need a mac for logic), protools and cubase. So download some demos of these daws, and see which one you're most comfortable with. If you're only looking for rewire and don't really want a whole new music production program to use, then reaper might be your best bet.
