I personally don't rewire at all. I usually just export my Reason mix to a stereo .wav and import it into Cubase. I am also contemplating using rewire, but it'll have to wait till I get a faster laptop.

One of my friends rewires all the time and it does give him a lot of control over the individual tracks coming out of Reason; using VST effects on sounds etc.
